DW Smith takes part in Mantoloking Restoration following Superstorm Sandy
Farmingdale, NJ (December 2012)—DW Smith Associates recently worked alongside Sambol Construction and the United States Army Corps of Engineers to assist in the Mantoloking designing restoration project in Mantoloking, NJ.
This team worked together to reclaim the area that was breached as a result of October’s Superstorm Sandy. The breach caused the Atlantic Ocean to break through the dunes and connect with the bay in Mantoloking. This resulted in great devastation and destruction of homes, roadways and anything else that was in the ocean’s path.
The restoration project has since been completed and 8-foot coastal barrier protection dunes have been installed along the breached area. Homes have now begun to be reconstructed in the area where the breach occurred.
“We are grateful to have been able to provide our services for the restoration project. This was one of the necessary steps with regard to restoring and rebuilding this shore community, one of the areas in which DW Smith has been a part of for over 47 years,” noted Thomas Murphy, Principal Surveyor.
