DW Smith
Associates, a leading New Jersey design and engineering
firm, has announced the expansion of its environmental
services. Citing continued growth, increasingly complex
building regulations, and a greater number of redevelopment
projects, the firm has expanded its services to commercial
developers, property acquisition firms, and financial
institutions.
Heading up the Environmental division are Penelope Griber and Kevin
Rothauser. Griber’s main area of focus includes field
environmental investigations, environmental permitting,
environmental impact statements, and expert testimony. In
order to provide increased services to a changing market,
Griber is currently receiving state-sponsored training from
the N.J. Redevelopment Authority in all aspects of
redevelopment. "I want to be a resource to our clients who
want to develop in the urban areas. We can provide the
technical assistance and support needed for our clients to
respond to redevelopment initiatives" said Griber. "Our
environmental department has the knowledge, ability, and
experience to handle any challenging urban setting. We can
collect and analyze the data and establish goals and
objectives to meet the regulatory requirements."
Rothauser will use his expertise in site remediation to assist new and existing clients.
“Many of New Jersey’s remaining sites require redevelopment in blighted or industrial areas”
says Rothauser. “We’re particularly well-equipped to assist in those situations, with intimate
knowledge of the New Jersey Brownfields Program. Although not all urban sites fall within the
Brownfields Program, the concept remains the same: determine the property's potential environmental
concerns to minimize the developer's risk."
In keeping with its mission, DW Smith Associates will
continue to provide start-to-finish engineering and consulting
services, including Phase I Environmental Assessments, testing
of soil and water, research into a property’s history, and guidance
to lead clients through the maze of environmental regulations.
“Because of the size of our firm, we’re able to focus on our clients individually”
notes Rothauser. “We’re equipped to take a multi-faceted approach to
multiple use properties.” With the expansion of its environmental services,
DW Smith has fully staffed departments focusing on all aspects of property
development including Engineering, Land Planning, Land Surveying,
Landscape Architecture, and Site Remediation.
