Mr. Murphy holds Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) licenses in the States of New Jersey, Pennsylvania and New York.  He is also licensed as a Professional Engineer in New Jersey. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Rutgers University in 1987 with a specialization in Water Resources & Environment, and joined DW Smith Associates in 2006. He also serves as an adjunct professor at Ocean County College, where he recently received a certificate of Loyal Service for 20 years of service.

Mr. Murphy specializes in Environmental Permitting, Utility, Right-Of-Way, Topographic, Boundary, Tideland, Riparian and Wetlands Surveys. For eight years, he worked on Right-Of-Way, Route and NJDOT Highway Surveys. Mr. Murphy also has expertise with Land Title Records Research, Surveying, Mapping and CADD calculations.  He has worked with Trimble Fast Static and Real Time Kinematic post processing software.  Mr. Murphy assisted in developing the blue book GPS observations for the Burlington County GPS Network.

Mr. Murphy is a member of the New Jersey Society of Professional Land Surveyors, Ocean County Society of Professional Engineers, American Society of Civil Engineers and is an active member of the NJ Alliance for Action. As part of his continued education, he recently completed a Permaculture Design Certificate course with Geoff Lawton.   As the father of three teenagers, Mr. Murphy balances his time between career and family.  He enjoys gardening, sailing, reading and is an avid fan of European soccer.
